Sweet Potato Tikkis

This is one of those healthy + delicious recipes. Sweet potatoes are naturally sweet. So you need to add a lot of flavour of balance that sweetness, and even then the sweetness will shine. And that’s one of the many things I love about sweet potatoes. Sweet potato has been a staple pantry item in my home. This is one of those recipes you can change by adding just about anything in your pantry.

Firstly, boil the sweet potatoes. Cook till soft. Peel and add them to a large bowl. Mash well and discard any uncooked chunks.

To this, mix add garlic, onions, sweet corn green chilli oats, spices, coriander leaves, and lemon juice.

Soak bread in water for a few seconds. Squeeze out the excess water and mix it in with the dough.

Shape them into 2 tablespoon balls and flatten them to 1cm thick. Uniformity will help in cooking all the Tikkis evenly. Pan fry on a non-stick pan sprayed with a little oil.

Serve with some Pickled onions and black pepper yogurt or mint chutney. The tang from the two condiments adds a wonderful flavour to the sweet and spicy Tikkis.

 

Recipe:

Sweet Potato-  350 gms
Onions- 1 medium, chopped
Green chilli- 2, chopped
Garlic- 5-6 cloves, chopped
sweet corn- 1/2 cup
Chilli flakes- 2 teaspoons
turmeric- 1/4 teaspoon
garam masala- 1 1/2 teaspoon
Chat masala- 1 teaspoon
Chilli powder- 1 teaspoon
Instant oats- 1/4 cup
Lemon juice- 1/2 lemon
Coriander leaves- 1/4 cup
Bread- 1 slice
Salt- to taste
